He joined the PUNJAB NATIONAL BANK as a probationary officer in Sept 1969, and has held extensive field positions which include working as the head of foreign exchange position maintaining and dealing office at Bombay for over four years, heading large credit branch at Bombay, Deputy Zonal Manager Bombay, Zonal Manager West U.P. He headed PNB Capital Services Ltd., New Delhi, a Merchant Banking and NBFC subsidiary of PNB, as its Managing Director for about four and half years. He was Nominee Director of the Bank on the Boards of a few Companies.
As General Manager/Chief General Manager, he has substantial exposure to Risk Management - Credit Risk And Operational Risk, Credit Policy, Participation In Credit Decisions As Member Of The Credit Committee, Foreign Exchange, Merchant Banking, Inspection And Audit, Customer Service, Management Of Regional Rural Banks, Government Business. He conducted training sessions in the Bank’s Training Centre.
He was key member in the committees / Working Groups constituted by Reserve Bank of India-Improvement in Concurrent Audit system of Commercial Banks, Ad Hoc committee of Procedures, Performance Audit and Customer Service, Member of the empowered Committee – Regarding functioning of Regional Rural Banks in the states of Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh; Indian Banks Association-Suggestions for improvement in Concurrent Audit system of Commercial Banks, Drafting code of conduct of banker’s commitment to customers
