A post-graduation in management from the prestigious Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, Mr Balasubramanian has over three decades of rich experience in the Banking and Finance Sector. A banker to the core, Balasubramanian has contributed his expertise to esteemed organizations, including the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), IFCI, and Bank of Baroda.

Throughout his illustrious career, Mr. Balasubramanian has demonstrated versatility, particularly in the areas of credit and international business. Starting as Deputy Managing Director at SIDBI, he swiftly rose to the position of Chairman and Managing Director. During his tenure as Chairman & Managing Director of SIDBI, he gave new direction to Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) financing by creating strong linkages between commercial banks and SIDBI, thus advocating the cause of SMEs. Before his tenure at SIDBI, Mr. Balasubramanian dedicated thirty years of service to the Bank of Baroda, both within India and abroad. He was also an advisor to the Standard Chartered Bank to promote SME Business. He was also instrumental in starting the SME Rating Agency of India (SMERA).

Mr. Balasubramanian briefly served as the Chairman of IFCI. As the Chairman of the sub-committee of the Planning Commission, he was a guiding force in preparing the five-year plan document on SME Financing.
